Terms of Service
Last updated: 18 August 2026. This is a plain-language summary of the terms governing use of MelaGO, not a substitute for legal advice — it should be reviewed by qualified counsel, including for compliance with Ethiopian law, before being relied on as a binding legal document.
1. The service
MelaGO connects riders who need a trip with independent drivers who provide one. MelaGO is a technology platform, not a transportation carrier — the driver, not MelaGO, is responsible for the trip itself.
2. Accounts
You must provide accurate information when creating an account and keep your login credentials secure. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account. MelaGO may suspend an account that violates these terms, engages in fraud, or poses a safety risk to others.
3. Fares and payment
Fares are calculated from a base fare, distance, time, and any applicable surge pricing, shown to the rider before requesting a trip except where the ride is scheduled in advance (which locks in the base rate). MelaGO deducts a commission from each completed trip's fare, disclosed in the driver's earnings — except during a driver's commission-free onboarding period.
A rider who cancels shortly after a driver accepts owes no fee; cancelling after the driver has already been traveling toward pickup for longer than the grace period may incur a cancellation fee, credited to the driver.
4. Driver eligibility
Drivers must hold a valid license and vehicle registration, meet MelaGO's vehicle standards, and pass document verification before accepting trips. MelaGO may suspend a driver account for expired documents, safety incidents, or policy violations.
5. Conduct and safety
Riders and drivers are expected to treat each other with respect. MelaGO provides in-app safety tools (SOS, trusted-contact alerts, trip sharing, safe-arrival confirmation) but is not a substitute for emergency services — call local emergency services directly for an emergency in progress.
6. Liability
MelaGO facilitates the connection between riders and drivers but is not a party to the transportation service itself. To the extent permitted by law, MelaGO's liability is limited to the fare paid for the trip in question.
7. Changes to these terms
MelaGO may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
